Ibiza 2018

It’s got to be said that if there was an award for the world’s laziest blogger then it would go to me. My last post was back in April when I played at Snowbombing festival and since then life has been a bit of a whirlwind and I’ve just not got round to writing a post. I usually get a bit anxious about my blogs subject matter; will people think this post is boring? And I only write when I’ve done something amazing, well guess what? I’ve done something amazing.

For those who don’t know me personally, I have a real love for Ibiza. Without getting all spiritual and deep like Eyal from Love Island, I lived there for two summers during my University years and feel I have a genuine connection with the island. It feels like home, although home is actually Carlisle, which is far from the Balearic’s and Ibiza!

When I heard I was being flown out to Ibiza with Capital to interview DJs and host a radio show from Café Mambo I was buzzing! This was the PERFECT job for me as I know the island, I love talking about music and to do a show from Café Mambo is iconic. I got the chance to interview the likes of Rudimental and Anne Marie, Sigma, Craig David, Jonas Blue, The Chainsmokers and Jax Jones. I went between Ibiza Rocks and Ushuaia to do the interviews and I even managed to squeeze in a cheeky trip to Amnesia and DC10 to see Denis Sulta.

My interview with Jax Jones at Ibiza Rocks has to be my favourite as something brilliant/rediculous happened. My friends and I have a saying that if you do a ‘througher’ meaning to stay up all night partying then you do a ‘Louis’ as in Louis Theroux. I told Jax Jones and he loved it and said he was stealing the saying. Then unbelievably Louis Theroux retweeted our interview and said ‘Cancel the OBE, this is the only honour I need’. I didn’t think it was real at first and then when I seen lots of people retweeting it sunk in. Louis Theroux now knows what a Louis is!

I will be back out in Ibiza this Saturday 18th August 2018 to host The Capital Weekender live from Café Mambo across the Capital network from 6pm. Get the shout outs in!

Creamfields

Creamfields

It’s that time of year again, Creamfields is back and this year we’re celebrating it’s 20th anniversary with another incredible line-up. Since it began in 1998 as a one day event in Winchester, it’s moved to Speke in Liverpool and then to Daresbury near Runcorn expanding to a 4 day event. Attracting crowds of up to 65,000 and incredible DJs like The Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Daft Punk and Sacha, Creamfields has become the go-to festival in the UK.

Last summer I got the chance to work backstage interviewing some of the headline acts. The backstage area is full of tipis, bars and dressing rooms with some of the biggest DJs in world draped across the sofas. It was a bit of a surreal experience, at one point we had Annie Mac and her TV crew running through the backstage area capturing every moment for her new documentary, then we had Tiesto and his team doing shots (we’ll get to that in a bit).

Above the Capital FM Liverpool team working backstage at Creamfields. Anton Powers (standing next to me in the picture) even had to stand-in for Martin Garrix on the Main Stage……as you do!

IMG_1732I interviewed Disciples, MK, Galantis and Oliver Heldens who I found out loves disco music which I was absolutely buzzing about because I LOVE disco music too. He was really good fun to interview!

My favourite interview of the day was with Fatboy Slim, who is the most down to earth DJ I’ve ever met. The legendary DJ told me how he felt at home at Creamfields as he’s played  so many times and what his warm up ritual was before he went on stage.

Check out the interview here

Tiesto

Just before his set I was told I was going to interview Tiesto but warned we couldn’t film it. Obviously I was pretty annoyed as he is one of THE biggest DJs in the world, however it went really well and ended up with me and my producer being asked back to his dressing room to do some shots! The most bizarre end to an interview EVER, and they let us film that bit!

After the interviews we went into the festival pretty giddy from Tiesto’s shots and watched Calvin Harris and Fatboy Slim, the perfect way to end a day at Creamfields.

Creamfields 2017 kicks off tomorrow!!!

January is a write-off…..let’s go DISCO Liverpool

Happy New Year!! Yeah so I’m 41 days late in saying it but whatever, I decided that January was a write-off and that blogging, gymming and being sensible could wait until February. January brings dark, rainy mornings, diets that no one sticks to and gyms full of newbies taking over the running machines (well thats my excuse for not joining a gym).

I decided that as I’d moved to a new city (Liverpool) I would put miserable January on the back burner and test out the new nightlife, I’m calling this ‘research’ for my new radio show on Capital. Liverpool is such a vibrant city with every type of restaurant, bar and club going. I lived in Liverpool from 2007 to 2010 as a student and seen the dramatic change in the cities look and nightlife during the Capital of Culture. Coming back 5 years later the city has even more to offer.

My first Thursday night back in Liverpool was spent at Bongos Bingo at Camp & Furnace. Yep that’s right I went to play bingo! However it’s not what you think, well you do play bingo but they let you dance on the tables, get very merry and they play random rave and pop tunes in-between the rounds. They even have characters that dress up and dance on stage to entertain the strong crowd of 500. The prizes are ridiculous ranging from bottles of Lambrini to cash. There’s no other way of explaining this event, you have to see it to believe it.

Magnet was always a favourite of mine at university and it was great to see the bar is still going strong. I went to see Hacienda legend Graeme Park play some house and disco classics. The vibe was brilliant but my dance moves were questionable. Check out some of the tracks that were played at the event here – Graeme Park Mix – Magnet

Mowgli Street Food on Bold Street is absolutely the place to go for after work drinks and food. Mowgli is all about how Indians eat at home and on their streets. The food is super tasty, the service is friendly and the setting is hipster and cosy (if that’s even a thing), plus Bold street is ideal for bar hopping.

Capital Liverpool – Capital FM To Take Over Juice FM’s 107.6 Frequency

Capital

Drive

So the cat is out of the bag! It was announced today that 107.6 Capital Liverpool will be launching on 18th January 2016. This is very exciting news for me and my co-host Graeme Smith as we will be transferring from hosting the breakfast show on Capital North West & North Wales and moving to the Drivetime slot on Capital Liverpool. This will be the second time we have both launched a Capital station as we launched Capital North West & North Wales in May 2014. The current breakfast team (Adam, Gemma and Imogen) will continue to host the breakfast show and Baz Todd will present weekends. Liverpool legend Anton Powers will take over the Drivetime show on Thursdays and Fridays and present from 6pm – 7pm.

Moving to Liverpool will be an amazing opportunity for me and Graeme as we both have connections to the city. With Graeme originally from Crosby in Liverpool and me studying music there at university, Liverpool has always had a big place in our hearts. It’s amazing to see how much the city has changed since it was awarded Capital of Culture in 2008 so I’m looking forward to exploring again. Here’s to 2016 it’s going to be an exciting year!

Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball 2015 – The Ultimate Pop Tarts Party!

Screen Shot 2015-12-11 at 16.28.40

Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball has got to be every pop tarts dream. Held at the 02 in London, it’s impressive line-up smashes any other UK Christmas concert by a long shot. Held over two nights you can see the likes of Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Calvin Harris and Jess Glynne. And it doesn’t stop there, even stars like Kendal Jenner were in the crowd checking out Justin Bieber’s Sunday night performance.

Attending the Saturday night show I watched Coldplay open the show. I’ve never really rated Coldplay, yeah I know how wrong was I as they absolutely smashed their opening set. Then Jason Derulo came on…… and the shirt came off. I was really excited to see Tini Tempah & Katy B as I love their track ‘Turn The Music Louder’ and they didn’t disappoint. Tini always seems to look so dapper in whatever he wears. Next up Years & Years and Olly the front man came on stage wearing a sequined silver jumpsuit and bomber, we wouldn’t expect anything less from him. He sang ‘King’, ‘Shine’ and even did a cover of Britney’s Toxic.

Unfortunately by this point the free VIP bar was calling, so I headed down to get a few drinks. I missed WSTRN and Nathan Sykes but managed to make it back for Fleur East and Jess Glynne. It’s got to be said that Jess Glynne is the voice of 2015 and she did an amazing mash up of ‘Finally’ by Ce Ce Peniston (my fave house vocal ever). Then Little Mix and David Guetta closed the show. The after parties were held at Tape an exclusive nightclub in London. According to my sources Justin Bieber who performed on the Sunday night got on stage at Tape and started rapping to Eminem tracks, not something you see everyday! At the ball I wore a House of CB dress with slick rick hair and Kurt Geiger shoes. I somehow managed to forget to take any pictures at the ball, clearly I was having TOO much fun! Luckily my friends did remember and managed to get this shot, I promise I only had a few drinks!
