It’s that time of year again, Creamfields is back and this year we’re celebrating it’s 20th anniversary with another incredible line-up. Since it began in 1998 as a one day event in Winchester, it’s moved to Speke in Liverpool and then to Daresbury near Runcorn expanding to a 4 day event. Attracting crowds of up to 65,000 and incredible DJs like The Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Daft Punk and Sacha, Creamfields has become the go-to festival in the UK.

Last summer I got the chance to work backstage interviewing some of the headline acts. The backstage area is full of tipis, bars and dressing rooms with some of the biggest DJs in world draped across the sofas. It was a bit of a surreal experience, at one point we had Annie Mac and her TV crew running through the backstage area capturing every moment for her new documentary, then we had Tiesto and his team doing shots (we’ll get to that in a bit).

IMG_1732I interviewed Disciples, MK, Galantis and Oliver Heldens who I found out loves disco music which I was absolutely buzzing about because I LOVE disco music too. He was really good fun to interview!

 Check out the interview here

My favourite interview of the day was with Fatboy Slim, who is the most down to earth DJ I’ve ever met. The legendary DJ told me how he felt at home at Creamfields as he’s played  so many times and what his warm up ritual was before he went on stage.

Check out the interview here

Just before his set I was told I was going to interview Tiesto but warned we couldn’t film it. Obviously I was pretty annoyed as he is one of THE biggest DJs in the world, however it went really well and ended up with me and my producer being asked back to his dressing room to do some shots! The most bizarre end to an interview EVER, and they let us film that bit!

After the interviews we went into the festival pretty giddy from Tiesto’s shots and watched Calvin Harris and Fatboy Slim, the perfect way to end a day at Creamfields.

Creamfields 2017 kicks off tomorrow!!!

If you ever had a reason to visit Paris then it would be to soak up the atmosphere at Paris Fashion Week. Even if you can’t get a ticket to a luxury fashion show, you can get into some of the after parties and shop like an A-lister down Rue Cambon. This was my first visit to Paris and it blew me away. Paris truly is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, the food the parties and of course the shopping. If you’re planning a weekend getaway then Paris is the perfect choice as it’s only an hour and 20 minutes flight from Manchester airport.

Top three things you need to know when visiting Paris:

Where to eat

Where to shop

Where to party

Weekends away should always involve brunch and the best brunch in town is served at Derrière. The vibe is relaxed, the interior is a mish mash of vintage and the food is delightful. If you can get a table that is attached to a double bed then you’re on to a winner. If you like your restaurants cosy and cute then Chez Julien will be ‘the one’. The food is incredible and the atmosphere is romantic, perfect if you’re going with a date. If you’re with the girls and fancy flossing it up then head to Kong, it appeared in a Sex & The City episode when Carrie met Aleksandr Petrovsky’s ex-wife. It has an amazing view of Pont Neuf and the Louis Vutton offices, the food was good but the prices weren’t.

You should visit Le Titty Twister just for it’s name. On arrival you’re greeted by a fabulous and flamboyant doorman @iliesse_west who really sets the scene before you’ve even walked through the doors. It’s a bar/club open until 6am playing everything from R&B to House music and it’s one of the places ‘to be seen’ so I’ve heard. If you’re after somewhere a bit more upmarket then head to Les Bains, I was lucky enough to get invited to a fashion after-party there. The drinks were pricey but the music was insane and the clientele was fruity, everything you would expect at Paris fashion week. If you’re still feeling fruity after Les Bains then head to the greatest cabaret show on the planet, Le Crazy Horse. If you’re not familiar with it then remember Dita Von Tease? Well she did some shows there that got her quite a bit of press. Expect the hottest women on the planet, performing sexy dance routines pretty much naked. Celebrities that have been spotted there include Rihanna, Jean Paul Gaultier, Lana Del Ray and Scarlett Johansson.

As we all know Paris is renowned for it’s shopping. It’s the home of the original Chanel and Hermes store and cult store Colette. Admittedly I didn’t do much shopping as I’d enjoyed myself a little too much in Les Baines and Titty Twister. The shops I did get to see were Hermes, Colette and of course the original Chanel store at 31 Rue Cambon. The main streets to find fabulous stores are Rue Saint Honore (Colette, Jimmy Choo & Burberry), Rue Cambon (Chanel) and Avenue George (Hermes). There are definitely more streets and stores to mention….but like I said…..the hangover got in the way!

January is a write-off…..let’s go DISCO Liverpool

Happy New Year!! Yeah so I’m 41 days late in saying it but whatever, I decided that January was a write-off and that blogging, gymming and being sensible could wait until February. January brings dark, rainy mornings, diets that no one sticks to and gyms full of newbies taking over the running machines (well thats my excuse for not joining a gym).

I decided that as I’d moved to a new city (Liverpool) I would put miserable January on the back burner and test out the new nightlife, I’m calling this ‘research’ for my new radio show on Capital. Liverpool is such a vibrant city with every type of restaurant, bar and club going. I lived in Liverpool from 2007 to 2010 as a student and seen the dramatic change in the cities look and nightlife during the Capital of Culture. Coming back 5 years later the city has even more to offer.

My first Thursday night back in Liverpool was spent at Bongos Bingo at Camp & Furnace. Yep that’s right I went to play bingo! However it’s not what you think, well you do play bingo but they let you dance on the tables, get very merry and they play random rave and pop tunes in-between the rounds. They even have characters that dress up and dance on stage to entertain the strong crowd of 500. The prizes are ridiculous ranging from bottles of Lambrini to cash. There’s no other way of explaining this event, you have to see it to believe it.

Magnet was always a favourite of mine at university and it was great to see the bar is still going strong. I went to see Hacienda legend Graeme Park play some house and disco classics. The vibe was brilliant but my dance moves were questionable. Check out some of the tracks that were played at the event here – Graeme Park Mix – Magnet

Mowgli Street Food on Bold Street is absolutely the place to go for after work drinks and food. Mowgli is all about how Indians eat at home and on their streets. The food is super tasty, the service is friendly and the setting is hipster and cosy (if that’s even a thing), plus Bold street is ideal for bar hopping.

Fancy a bevvie?

Finally if you liked the Radio 1 Ibiza Proms then make sure you have 15/16th April 2016 free in your diary, Cream Classics at Liverpool Cathedral performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra – it’s going to be a biggie. To follow more posts like this then follow me on Twitter.

Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball 2015 – The Ultimate Pop Tarts Party!

Screen Shot 2015-12-11 at 16.28.40

Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball has got to be every pop tarts dream. Held at the 02 in London, it’s impressive line-up smashes any other UK Christmas concert by a long shot. Held over two nights you can see the likes of Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Calvin Harris and Jess Glynne. And it doesn’t stop there, even stars like Kendal Jenner were in the crowd checking out Justin Bieber’s Sunday night performance.

Attending the Saturday night show I watched Coldplay open the show. I’ve never really rated Coldplay, yeah I know how wrong was I as they absolutely smashed their opening set. Then Jason Derulo came on…… and the shirt came off. I was really excited to see Tini Tempah & Katy B as I love their track ‘Turn The Music Louder’ and they didn’t disappoint. Tini always seems to look so dapper in whatever he wears. Next up Years & Years and Olly the front man came on stage wearing a sequined silver jumpsuit and bomber, we wouldn’t expect anything less from him. He sang ‘King’, ‘Shine’ and even did a cover of Britney’s Toxic.

Unfortunately by this point the free VIP bar was calling, so I headed down to get a few drinks. I missed WSTRN and Nathan Sykes but managed to make it back for Fleur East and Jess Glynne. It’s got to be said that Jess Glynne is the voice of 2015 and she did an amazing mash up of ‘Finally’ by Ce Ce Peniston (my fave house vocal ever). Then Little Mix and David Guetta closed the show. The after parties were held at Tape an exclusive nightclub in London. According to my sources Justin Bieber who performed on the Sunday night got on stage at Tape and started rapping to Eminem tracks, not something you see everyday! At the ball I wore a House of CB dress with slick rick hair and Kurt Geiger shoes. I somehow managed to forget to take any pictures at the ball, clearly I was having TOO much fun! Luckily my friends did remember and managed to get this shot, I promise I only had a few drinks!

Here’s one i made earlier…..the things you do for radio!

I’ve been radio presenting on and off for 10 years and from an early age always wanted to get behind the mic. I’ve come to realise that when you sign up to be a presenter there are so many things you have to do that don’t involve presenting. When i started my current radio gig at Capital i didn’t realise how many weird and wonderful things i’d have to do as a presenter all because ‘it’s content for the show’. That’s how the bosses dress it up, ‘oh it’s for the show, jump off that building it’s for the show’. Oh well if it’s for the show then of course! I actually said to my co-host Graeme Smith whilst putting on a wet-suit to go water skiing in February in North Wales FFS, that i sometimes feel like a Blue Peter presenter. Now before you think i’m an ungrateful cow, i’m not complaining, i actually wanted to be a Blue Peter presenter when i was a kid and deep down really enjoy the random things we do. But I’ve quickly learnt that as a presenter you have to do so many things that don’t involve a studio or a microphone.

Looking really chuffed here in the countryside!

So you’re probably wondering what things we’ve done for content for the show? We’ve visited housing estates in an ice cream van and yes i died inside. We’ve water skied and we’ve even done a surprise bungee jump. Now you’re probably wondering what that is, no someone didn’t push me off a building. Graeme and I had to climb to the top of a huge tree and then jump from the top! They didn’t actually tell us we had to jump until we got to the top and there was no other way down, but remember ‘it’s for the show’! Graeme had a bitch fit and didn’t end up jumping so i ended up flying solo. We’ve zipped across Europe’s longest zip line and most recently swam with sharks at Blue Planet Aquarium at Cheshire Oaks. Surprise surprise Graeme didn’t do that one either as he ‘had a sore back’. Swimming with sharks was pretty intense as i had 7 sharks circling a tank whilst i pretended to not shit myself. I’m a qualified diver so that made the experience a bit easier but when you see a shark you instantly think JAWS and Deep Blue Sea! What if I’ve cut my leg whilst shaving and the sharks smell the blood and eat me? It didn’t help that a bus load of school kids were pointing and laughing at me through the glass.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt as a presenter it’s always expect the unexpected. Whether its a shark dive or a bungee jump, an interview with a huge boy band or a race for life on a Sunday, you have to be on form and just roll with what you do. Screen Shot 2015-10-20 at 20.04.48

Autumn Beauty

Screen Shot 2015-09-17 at 19.01.51

Goodbye summer glow hello pasty Autumn skin! It might feel a bit depressing when the nights get darker, so to make you feel better i’ve got some Autumn beauty trends which will help you look and feel fabulous.

When Autumn kicks in it means corned beef legs and pasty looking skin. We’ve said goodbye to our so not glorious summer and there’s more chance of marrying Tom Hardy then getting a tan. The only thing we can rely on is fake tan, so it’s got to be a good one. I’ve been using fake tan since the age of 16, starting with the classic Dove gradual tan. Yeah we all remember that one don’t we?! We loved smelling of biscuits at the 6 form parties and getting it all over our boyfriends bed sheets. The tricky thing about gradual tan is the patchy bits inbetween your fingers and around the ankles. When I got my student loan at 18 I stepped it up a gear and invested in St Moriz instant self tanning lotion. This is not for the fainthearted as I went green the first time I used it! After that disaster I moved onto St Tropez which in my opinion the best brand of fake tan on the market.

For years I’ve been using the St Tropez bronzing lotion, the end result is fabulous but the journey getting there is pretty time consuming and smelly. Recently St Tropez has released a shower fake tan which means exactly what it says on the tin. It says to wash and exfoliate the body and then cover yourself in the St Tropez tanning lotion and wait for 3 minutes until it settles into the skin. Once the 3 minutes has passed you wash it off, dry down and you’re brown! They claim it doesn’t have an after smell, but I have to admit it does. It’s not quiet the Dove potent biscuit smell, but it’s still there lurking in the background. I would definity recommend to keep it on for around 5 minutes, I think they say 3 minutes just so you use more and then of course you buy more. The best thing about this fake tan is, if you fancy a few cocktails on a Friday but forgot to tan the night before and can’t face instant tan (Geordie Shore style) then you can jump in the shower and come out brown within 5 minutes. It’s cheaper than most tanning lotions on the high street and best of all it doesn’t turn your bed sheets brown!

Autumn means darker nights and comfort food, so the last thing you want to do is go to the gym. If you’ve tried and failed to get rid of your love handles and cellulite then this treatment might work for you. It’s Kate Moss’s favourite beauty treatment, so if it’s good enough for Kate, it’s good enough for us. What is cryotherapy? Before you ask, it doesn’t involve crying or some shrink and a chaise longue. It’s a non-invasive treatment that helps inch loss, skin rejuvination, removes cellulite and relieves pain by using freezing air on the skin to breakdown fat cells and repair muscles. It’s popular with athletes like Mo Farah and celebrities like Jessica Alba.

So how does it work? Freezing air is blown onto the skin, the targeted area goes into fight or flight mode, the body instantly wants to heat back up as the air is cooling it down. This encourages the blood to flow around that area helping your circulation, which then helps to budge the fat and dreaded cellulite. Like most girls i have a few areas on my body that i’m not exactly in love with, so i thought i would try this treatment on my problems areas. I’ve always suffered from blemishes so i opted for a facelift for my first treatment. The word ‘facelift’ sounds intense, but this treatment was really relaxing to the point where i nearly fell asleep. Altogether it took 12 minutes and involved cleansing the face then the therapist used the cryotherapy machine to blow freezing air all over my face. It’s done in sections and the therapist uses her hand to warm the skin back up. It’s not painful and after the 12 minutes my skin looked noticebly plumper and tighter. My second treatment focused on the back of my legs, concentrating on the tops of my thighs for 30 minutes. The therapist took me through the same process as before and again this was very relaxing and not painful. Before the treatment the therapist measured the width of my thighs and to my surprise after a 30 minute treatment i lost 6 1/2 inches off my thighs! No treadmill can do that in 30 minutes.

After the treatment the results can last as long as you want them to, so if you exercise and eat healthy the weight should stay off. This treatment is relaxing, non-invasive and you can see the results instantly. My skin felt plump and tighter exactly what you need if the Autumn weather is getting to you and your body.
